Whose bright idea was this awesome taste sensation anyway?
The history is a bit murky, but we do know that by 1598 it was so popular that in Shakespeare’s Love’s Labours Lost, Costard declared “An I had but one penny in the world, thou shouldst have it to buy ginger-bread.” How can you argue with that kind of history?
Also, there were no squirrels on Nantucket until 1989. We aren’t sure why, and it really has nothing to do with Gingerbread loaves, but we thought it was interesting and something you might like to know. You’re welcome.
