The restaurant has been featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive In, and Dives and is known as one of the most famous Nebraska Restaurants.Patricia “Big Mama” Barron acquired her passion for cooking as a child in the kitchen of her beloved Grandmother Lillie. Big Mama's began as a part-time home-based business in the kitchen of founder; Patricia Barron . Owning a restaurant was a lifelong dream of Big Mama's and in December of 2007 at the age of 62, she opened the doors of her first restaurant, “Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering” uniquely located in the cafeteria of an old school formerly known as the Nebraska School for the Deaf.Big Mama enjoyed cooking and feeding people in her restaurant until her passing in 2018. Today her legacy of great tasting home-cooked food, community and second chances continue as her family is committed to growing and expanding the legacy she created. In 2022 the restaurant moved to its new location in the Highlander Accelerator located at 2112 North 30th Street, North Omaha’s first food and drink hub.
