This parfleche necklace is made from rawhide and decorated with soft buckskin leather. These boxes are made in the same manner parfleche containers have been made with through the ages. The hides are scraped and then worked to turn them into the products needed to make these containers. Traditional earth tones and decorative patterns are used to decorate the boxes in a style that would have been used a century ago.
Native Americans tradionally used parfleche boxes to carry their clothing and personal items. Historically, some of the parfleche was made into envelopes to carry dried meats.
This small parfleche box is very lightweight but very sturdy. If worn as a necklace it would be similar to a 32" necklace length. It is also great to decorate your home or auto.
Box is 2.5" wide X 1.5" deep X 1.5" tall with 3-4" fringe. Leather thong making the necklace is 32".
